“Getting bored and feeling life’s done, watch thriller movies, eat pizza and have fun”
During our research, we discovered that the majority of Netflix users are divided into two classes:
1. One preferably wanting to watch something light and breezy like a Romcoms, Standup Comedy, or even Drama for instance.
2. The other half of our audience is intrigued by thrillers, sci-fi, adventure, murder mysteries, etc.
This is why today we’ll be discussing two Underrated Thriller Movies to watch on Netflix.
PS: For the ones preferring a few lights and breezy Romcoms we also have added a few recommendations for you all at the end.
1. Small Crimes by E.L. Katz (This)
Released in 2017 with a running time of 95 minutes, and a rating of 5.8/ 10 on IMDb.
Small Crimes is an American crime film from a screenplay of Katz and Macon Blair, based on the novel of same name by Dave Zeltserman.
With a great cast and crew including Nikolaj Coster-Waldau who perfected playing morally dubious characters with his role as Jaime Lannister on Game of Thrones
He brings these same qualities to this darkly comedic thriller.
Accompanying him are Gary Cole, Molly Parker, Pet Healy, Robert Foster and a few others.
Briefly, the movie revolves around a disgraced former cop who has served a six-year prison term for attempted murder.
On his return he looks for redemption but winds up trapped in the mess he left behind.
A movie with a strong genre element with the sense of evil lurking in the shadows, threatening to engulf innocence.
This movie has a mixed review as some people find it quickly entangling itself in lots of needless local mythology and slightly unrealistic.
Moreover, a few people who wrote their reviews on IMDB found that the chronological order of the story was a bit confusing at times but in the end it all comes together.
In fact, it can be difficult to follow in the beginning but the story is entertaining to watch.
The story is full of action , keeping your interest throughout with a surprising ending.
At the end of the day, there is drama, there is tension and it’s mysterious, all played by very fine actors to a degree that makes this more than watchable.
2. Cargo by Ben Howling and Yolanda Ramke (That)
Released in 2017 with a running time of 105 minutes, and a rating of 6.3 / 10 on IMDb.
The Australian movie Cargo is a horror drama set in a post-apocalyptic world.
It’s a world-wide pandemic in which people become rabid within 48 hours.
One of the survivors is the Rose family, Andy, Kay and their baby Rosie, which is living on a houseboat in rural Australia.
A story of how a father searches for someone willing to protect his daughter.
People may be tired of the zombie genre, but this film provides a quieter, yet still thrilling approach to the story.
Starring Martin Freeman, Simone Landers, David Gulpilil, Susie Porter, Natasha Wanganeen, and a few others.
Cargo received positive reviews from critics praising Freeman’s performance and its emotional depth.
Film -The Road, released in 2009, is referred to as the inspiration for this film.
It is a film that might’ve gotten lost in the fray among this season’s more buzzed-about indie offerings; something that makes Netflix the ideal platform for it.
Those who are game to stay would be amazed by the work and the cinematography of this film.
But a few reviewers find this film unlikely to satisfy either viewers looking for serious-minded fare or horror fans looking for genuine frights.
This is a movie with mixed reviews, but in our opinion, it is opposite.
It can be considered a good movie for a one-time watch that combines drama, adventure, mystery all in one.
That is it for the day but some of a few other underrated thriller movies to watch on a relaxing Sunday afternoon are Hush (2017), I Don’t Feel At Home In This World Anymore (2017), Blue Ruin (2013) and Burning (2018).
And as mentioned earlier a few underrated RomComs worth watching are Alex Strangelove (2018), The Decoy Bride (2011), For a good time call (2012) and The 10 year plan (2014).
